Sea Urchin Fossil on Leather

This is a wonderful 5,000,000 year old specimen of sea urchin fossil was dug up on the coast of California in the San Joaquin Valley.  The San Joaquin Valley is rich with petroleum deposits and these specimens absorbed the petroleum which serves to highlight the five pointed radial symmetry of the fossil.

Set in sterling silver the sea urchin hangs od a necklace of deerskin leather with freshwater slider pearl to make it adjustable.
